Lack of quality services at medical sector creating obstacle against poverty elimination

Participants at a dialogue organised by Power and Participation Research Centre (PPRC) supported by Rockefeller Foundation and in collaboration with Sher-e- Bangla Medical College Barisal and BRAC institute of Global Health was held at the auditorium of Barisal SBMC.
Participants of Barisal Dialogue over ‘universal health coverage : field level reality and the act of doing in future’ on Saturday at Barisal opined that uncontrolled expenditure and under questioned quality of medical services creating new obstacles against eliminating poverty in Bangladesh.
While average private expenditures in health sector in the outer world remained within thirty-five percents , then it costs about sixty-six percent in Bangladesh. Due to this annually 4-5 million families in Bangladesh came under risks adding fresh numbers of poor people, they added.
Rendering medical services to face these types of serious health risks in yet to be addressed properly. These health sector issues would be demanded more importance in national priorities in next decade.
Expanding coordinated professional initiatives can create that importance. So we should face these challenges creating new dimensions and attitudes, they agreed.
The second dialogue over this issue was organised by Power and Participation Research Centre (PPRC) supported by Rockefeller Foundation and in collaboration with Sher-e- Bangla Medical College Barisal and BRAC institute of Global Health at the auditorium of Barisal SBMC as Barisal region became second in national poverty affected region.PPRC executive chairman and advisor of former caretaker government

Among others it was addressed and participated by A M M Nasiruddin, former secretary of health ministry, Dr. Tahmina Banu, head of child-surgery department of Chittagong Medical College, Prof Dr. Sabbir Ahmed , principal SBMC, Dr. Masud of BRAC University of Global Health, Shadab Mahamud, advisor PPRC, SBMC, representatives from Barisal City Corporation, stakeholders and service providers of health departments of the region.
