Lab installed at Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial Hospital

A PCR-lab has been installed at Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Memorial KPJ Specialized Hospital as part of widening testing facilities of COVID-19 in the country.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq formally inaugurated the PCR lab at a function in Gzipur on Tuesday, said an official press release.
“Garment workers, who are living in Gazipur, with suspected symptoms of COVID-19 will be able to test at the PCR lab in the hospital easily and they (garment workers) will get their results of sample tests of the virus within 24 hours,” the minister said.
The testing capacity of the lab is around 300 everyday. The hospital authorities said at the directive of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Taka 500 has been fixed for per test of suspected COVID-19 case at the hospital while other private hospitals are charging Taka 3,500 for each test.
Executive Member of Bangabandhu Memorial Trust Maj Gen (retd) Abdul Hafiz Mallik, Gazipur City Corporation Mayor Advocate Md. Jahangir Alam and Deputy Commissioner of Gazipur Tarikul Islam, among others, were present at the function.
