Kyle Haywood, the new Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of national flag carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines (BBA), is going to take over his charge in the first week of January, 2015.
Kyle Haywood, MD of Fastjet, a low-cost South African carrier, is set to be the next boss of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, said AM Mosaddique Ahmed, acting MD and CEO of the national flag carrier.
A South Africa-born British citizen, Haywood served traditional carriers like British Airways and
Etihad Airways, and low-cost carrier Air Arabia. He also as the CEO of Air Uganda, sources said.
Biman, however, has not yet disclosed the salary and facilities to be paid to its new MD. But the sources said his salary would be almost like his predecessors’. The immediate past Biman MD and CEO used to get Tk 18.30 lakh as his salary a month, they said.
The post of the MD and CEO of Biman has been lying vacant since April 17 following the resignation of the first-ever foreign MD of the national flag carrier, Kevin Steele, another sources said.
Steele was appointed MD and CEO of Biman in March 2013 for a two-year term. He joined national carrier on March 13. He was also provided with a flat in a posh area of capital Dhaka asaccomodation, transport facilities and 12 free business-class tickets a year.
Earlier, Biman had received 40 applications for its vacant post of managing director and chief executive officer.
The sub-committee, headed by Civil Aviation Secretary Khurshed Alam Chowdhury, made a short-list from the applicantions.
According to sources in Biman, a total of 26 foreign nationals and 14 Bangladeshis showed their interest to wotk as MD of Biman.
