UNB, Kushtia :
Superintendent of Police of the district SM Tanvir Arafat claimed on Thursday that the statement circulating in mass media attributed to him, that the family of slain BUET student Abrar Fahad is engaged in Jamaat-Shibir politics, is false propaganda.
The misinformation is being spread to tarnish the image of police, reads a press release signed by SM Tanvir Arafat.
On October 9 at around 4 in the evening, Vice-chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) Prof Saiful Islam went to visit the homestead of Abrar at Raidanga village in Kumarkhali upazila with Kushtia Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, Kushtia Awami League President, General Secretary, Kushtia Zilla Parishad Chairman, Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman and local Awami League activists and leaders.
They went to Abrar’s grave along with his father, grandfather, uncle and relatives to offer fateha. Buet VC went back to Dhaka after talking with Abrar’s father and relatives while Police Super, Kushtia Deputy Commissioner and others went back to Kushtia.
Some news outlets have said that Abrar’s family is involved with Jamaat-Shibir politics quoting the Police Super.
However, Police Super did not make any comment on any issues while he was in Kushtia.
Abrar, 21, was found dead on the staircase of Sher-e-Bangla Hall of the university early Monday after some BCL leaders beat him at room-2011 of the dormitory on Sunday night suspecting his link with Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Shibir.
