Kuakata, the second largest sea beach of Bangladesh has small number of infrastructure displeasing the tourists.
The sea beach well-known as ‘Sagor Konya’ (Daughter of Sea) is situated at Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali District.
Kuakata has 18 km long attractive sea beach.
An excellent combination of the picturesque natural beauty, sandy beaches, blue sky and the shimmering expanse of water of the Bay of Bengal and the evergreen forest has made Kuakata amazing for the tourists’ destination.
Kuakata is truly a virgin beach, a sanctuary for migratory winter birds, a rows of coconut trees, sandy beach of blue Bay, and a feast for the eye. Forest, boats sailing in the Bay of Bengal with colourful sails, fishing, towering cliffs, surfing waves, and everything of here touches every visitor’s heart, the tourists said.
As per the experience of most of the visitors, Kuakata is one of the rarest places, which has the unique beauty of offering the full view of the Sun rise and Sunset in the waters of the Bay of Bengal.
The visitors also marked the Kuakata sea beach as ‘the queen beach of sun’.
All of those beauties present Kuakata as one of the world’s unique beaches. The long and wide beach at Kuakata has a typical natural beauty.
Meanwhile, several problems harm the lucrative tourists’ zone seriously, sources said.
Those are lack of small number of, dilapidated roads, beach erosion, broken logs and building blocks, red crab habitat destruction and jellyfish mortality.
“It is painful to visit different lucrative spots including, Gangamatir Char, red crab sand, Jhauban, Shutki palli and different buddhist temple only for seriously dilapidated roads,” said Ridwan Ahmed, a tourist visiting there recently.
Every one echoed similar bitter experiences.
The other identified problems are motorcycles for hire in beach areas, destroying crab habitat seriously. Lack of tourist police and marine litter were the major problems of Kuakata beach area.
It has been found that the beach is littered with building blocks and wooden logs, which are safety hazards for tourists. A recent meeting on protecting ecosystem of Kuakata focused those problems.
Speakers of the meeting urged the government to take immediate action to remove reasons behind the death of jellyfish there. A non-government marine conservation organisation ‘Save Our Sea’ organised the programme at the Kuakata Municipality Hall room.
Speaking on the occasion, Kuakata Dolphin Rokkha Committee President KM Bacchu said use of illegal fishing net is behind the death of jellyfish.
Speaking as the chief guest Kuakata Municipality Mayor Anwar Hossain Hawladar said that he was trying most to construct a bus terminal in Kuakata, but the municipality has no land for this.
He said that the district administration has necessary land for establishing a bus terminal there and urge the Deputy Commissioner for taking step on this regard.
He said also that trying most to carpet all the roads in and around the beach area to eliminate sufferings of tourists.
The mayor also said that he was working to ensure the plastic waste, which doesn’t dump into the sea beach.
Tourist Police Kuakata Zone Inspector Badrul Kabir said that police were working hard to ensure tourists safety in the beach.
