Steel menufecturing giant KSRM Steel Plant Limited has been launched its own lighter jetty at Sadarghat Lighter Jetty No. 4 leased from the Chattogram Port Authority. Nasir Uddin, Senior Hydrographer, Saiful Alam, Deputy Traffic Manager (Operations), Saiful Hasan Chowdhury, Executive Engineer of Chittagong Port Authority, Karim Uddin, Deputy Managing Director of KSRM Group, Commodore (Retd.) Shamsul Kabir, Director of KSRM Steel Plant Limited, Mizanul Islam, Media Advisor of KSRM Group, Capt. Golam Mostafa, Capt. Anwarul Haque and Chief Engineer M Mostom Rahman Chowdhury were also present during the innaguration ceremony.
Sources said, recently Rear Admiral M Shahjahan, chairman of Chittagong Port Authority, inspected the lighter jetty and asked the lessees to start it as soon as possible.
The Chittagong Port Authority took the initiative to conduct private operations by constructing 4 lighter jetties to bring momentum in the port activities. In that context, KSRM got the lease of Sadarghat Lighter Jetty No. 4 as the highest bidder.
The other three lighter jetty leaseholders are Ruby Food, BSRM and Abul Khair Steel.
The concerned people have taken initiative to launch this Jetty in phases in a few days. After the commissioning of these jetties, the leaseholders will inform the port authorities in writing about the actual experience of jetty management (navigability of river adjacent to the jetty, unloading of goods, transportation by truck to warehouses, cranes, electricity, road utility etc.). In this context, the port authorities will take the next necessary steps.
