Karmasangsthan Bank (KSB) on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Pran Dairy Limited to provide dairy farmers with bank loans at lower than usual rate of interest.
Under the MoU, KSB will give collateral-free loan up to Taka five lakh to a dairy farmer and the entrepreneur interested in dairy farming at 11.0 percent rate of interest.
Pran Dairy under its “Pran Dairy Hub” project will prepare a list of the dairy farmers for offering the loans. Pran will also support the dairy farmers with technical and other necessary assistance. Lauding the joint initiative at the MoU signing ceremony at a city hotel on Tuesday, Bangladesh Bank (BB) governor Dr Atiur Rahman said this project would help increase milk production besides creating opportunities of self-employment in rural areas.
He said the central bank already gave KSB a fund of Taka 100 crore at bank rate so it could offer dairy farmers loan at lower rate of interests.
The governor said the dairy farmers would pay back the loan by selling their milk because of lower rate of interest and smaller installment.
