A week after reopening its manpower market for Bangladeshi jobseekers, a high-profile delegation of the Saudi government arrived here on Sunday on a four-day visit to discuss issues relating to procurement of manpower from Bangladesh.
Sixteen members of the 19-man team reached Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the afternoon, said Shahidul Alam Majumdar, public relations officer at the Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry.
The three other members are scheduled to arrive here on Sunday night, he said.
The 19-member Saudi delegation, led by Dr Ahmed Al-Fahaid, Deputy Minister for International Affairs (leader) of the Ministry of Labour of Saudi Arabia, will hold talks with Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Engineer Khandker Mosharraf Hossain at his office at 9am on Monday.
Later, the Saudi team will meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at her official residence Ganobhaban at 7pm on the day.
During the visit, they will also visit the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET) and its training institute, the office of the Special Branch of police and Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
They will visit the DMCH to see for themselves how medical tests of the probable foreign jobseekers are conducted.
Meanwhile, some representatives of private agencies at the delegation will also hold a meeting with Bangladesh Association of International Recruiting Agencies (Baira) on Tuesday.
The delegation is expected to leave the country on February 11.
On February 1, the Saudi government reopened its manpower market for Bangladeshi jobseekers lifting the ban of long seven years, which is expected to boost manpower export to the Gulf country.
