Saudi Arabia deported 217 more Bangladeshi workers on Wednesday night and Thursday morning, raising the number to above 2,500 in last three weeks.
Of them, 103 workers returned by a Saudi Arabian Airlines flight at 11:20pm last night while 114 by another Saudi Arabian Airlines flight at 1:10am on Thursday.
Most of them said that they became helpless after entering Saudi Arabia at a huge cost.
However, after they went to KSA they faced many problems including denial of Ikama (work permit) by their Saudi employers.
Many of them returned within a few months from the country.
They told journalists about their uncertain future. Mintu Mian and Sujon Mian of Tangail said that they were arrested by Saudi Police while returning to their residences from workplaces.
Mintu mian’s work permit was valid for five more months, but police had not heard him. Besides, Sujon, who went to the country four months ago expending Tk five lakh, failed to get Ikama there.
Nazmul from Sylhet and Zahid from Sirajganj, Narsingdi’s Mantu, Tangail’s Abdul Kader and Liton expressed their frustrations to journalists.
Earlier in 2019, Saudi Arabia deported 25,789 Bangladeshi workers as per the data of the Expatriates’ Welfare Desk.
It showed also that a total of 64,638 workers were deported to Bangladesh empty-handed last year.
Besides KSA, 15,389 from Malaysia; 6,117 from UAE; 7,366 from Oman; 2,525 from Maldives; 2,012 from Qatar; 1,448 from Bahrain; and 479 from Kuwait returned also.
