The Munda people ( Tribe people) in Koyra upazila ofd Khulna district are being educated gradually, but they are being deprived of getting job facilities.
At twelve villages under Koyra upazila of Khulna district, around 3000 Munda people have been living . They have been living in this locality since 1830, said ABM Abdul Malek, a man of letters who is a lecturer of Bangla at Koyra Degree College.
At least 100 youths (both male and female) of Mundas are well educated. Some of them have completed Degree course and some of them have passed HSC. But it is a matter of great regret that they are depriving of getting any job, let alone government jobs. As a result the number of educated unemployed have been increasing day by day, alleged some Munda people of Koyra area.
“The Mundas have come to this locality from Ranchi, Bihar and Orissa of India. The then Land lords had brought them here , particularly in Sundarbans area with a view to clean bushes for making lands cultivable”, said Abdul Malek.
Shyamaptoshad Munda, a degree passed youth told this correspondent that he had appeared in written examinations 20 times for different jobs, but due to lack of money he failed to cross the viva voce examinations.
Some other degree passed youths named Sanjeet, Provat and Joydev also echoed with Shyamaproshad Munda.
Promila Munda, a female student who will appear in the HSC examination in the coming year said, “What’s the benefit to take higher education, because we don’t get any good job” ?
Local people representatives including UP chairman and member candidates come to them only before election, the Mundas are always being deprived of getting any government facilities like elderly or widow allowance, alleged some Munda people.
While talking to this correspondent, Tarapado Munda, a 95 year old man said, “There were no educated persons in our castes, but at present our children are not getting any job even after being educated”.
“Facilities are a little in the field of getting jobs, as we are Mundas”, said Tarapado with tearful eyes.
Most of the Mundas are farmers by profession. Some of them conduct their families by rearing animals.
By religion they are Hindus.
However, the villages where they live are- 2 no. Koyra, Majherait, Tepakhali, Botulbazar, Poshurtala, Barobari, Sheikhpara, Sardarpara, Nonadighir par, Horihorpur, Katkata and Binapani. All of these villages are under koyra upazila of Khulna district.
Different NGOs are working in Koyra on different projects, but there is no project for Mundass, alleged some ethnic people.
Local UP Member GM Mofizul Islam told the New Nation that the Mundas are now very aware due to increasing education. Besides, he inspired the local NGO activists to build awareness to the Munda people.
