Korea keen to invest in power, infrastructure

South Korea has expressed its keenness to invest in power, infrastructure development and some other sectors in Bangladesh.
The keenness was expressed when South Korean Ambassador in Dhaka Hu Kang-il called on Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi at his office in the city on Tuesday.
During the meeting, they discussed various bilateral issues, including trade and investment, readymade garments (RMG) and export diversification.
Tipu Munshi said South Korea has been a trade partner of Bangladesh for long and their investment in the country is a lot.
“The government has set up Korea Export Processing Zone (KEPZ) at Chattogram. Korean investment in the KEPZ is under process. We will have to take special initiatives to reduce the trade gap of the two countries,” he added.
Hu Kang-il said Bangladesh is a good friend for the South Korea as well as a good trade partner and South Korea wants to increase trade with Bangladesh.
“Many Korean companies are running in the country. Bangladesh is a good place for business. So, many Korean investors want to come in the country,” he added.
Among others, Commerce Secretary M Mofizul Islam and Additional Secretary (Export) Tapan Kanti Gosh were present.
