Eight matches of the Kool-BSJA Media Cup football tournament were decided on the opening day at the astro-turf of the Bangladesh Football Federation on Monday, with 24 reputed media houses are participating in the six-a-side tournament.
Former national star footballer and Bangladesh Football Federation senior vice president Abdus Salam Murshedy formally inaugurated the meet as the chief guest while Square senior marketing manager Jesmin Jaman was present as special guest.
BFF general secretary Abu Nayeem Sohag, BSJA president Syedur Rahman and BSJA general secretary Junayed Hosain were present on the occasion.
On the first day of the competition, Daily Star beat Jugantor by 2-1 goals, Jagonews24.com defeated Shomay TV by 2-1 goals, Dhaka Tribune dumped Bangladesh Protidin by 7-0 goals, Baisakhi TV blanked Bangladesh Sangbad Sangshtha by 5-0 goals, Banglavision edged past Naya Diganto by 1-0 goal, Janakantha played out to a 1-1 goal draw with Amader Shomay, Samakal played to a 2-2 goal draw with Daily Sangbad, Kaler Kantho defeated Maasranga TV by 2-0 goals.
BSJA former president Syed Mohammed Mamun, Bangladesh Table Tennis Federation general secretary Rafiqul Islam Tipu and BSJA senior member Kashinath Bashak distributed the prizes after the matches.
The participating teams, split into eight groups, are taking part in the round-robin format from where the group champions will advance into the quarter-finals.
