Entertainment Report :
Popular singer Somnur Monir Konal is set to establish a welfare trust in memory of her father Monir Hossain Montu, who recently died of Covid-19.
The singer made the announcement at the National Press Club on Saturday at a doa mahfil organised in memory of Monir Hossain Montu by Kuwaiti Returnees’ Get-Together Celebration Committee, 2020.
While talking in this regard Konal said, “My father was a politician and philanthropist who dedicated his life to the welfare of the society. Both in Kuwait and Bangladesh, our doors were always open for those in need, and my father’s heart was also always open for people. For Bangladeshi expatriates in Kuwait, our home would turn into a hub for get-togethers every Thursday and Friday. My father would stand by all expatriate Bangladeshis, in good times and bad.”
She also said, “I hope my brother and I will be able to carry on my father’s good deeds and keep his legacy alive. Therefore, I intend to establish a social welfare trust in my father’s memory, to provide financial support to the poor, needy and helpless members of society.”
Presided over by Convener of Kuwaiti Returnees’ Get-Together Committee Habibur Rahman, the meeting was attended by Konal’s mother Sayma Monir Minu, younger brother Muinul Hossain Arko, husband journalist Manjur Quader Zia and her aunt Zakia Parveen. Also, in attendance were family members of the deceased and leaders and activists of various social and cultural entities.
It is mentioned that Monir Hossain died of Covid-19 at a private hospital in the capital on September 10, 2020. He served at the Ministry of Interior in Kuwait, and was involved with various socio-cultural organisations of Bangladeshi expatriates in Kuwait.
