Kingfisher East Bengal FC of Kolkata earned the second successive victory in the Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup Football Tournament
outplaying Karachi Electric FC by 3-1 goals in a Group-B at MA Aziz Stadium here on Wednesday.
Earlier, Kingfisher East Bengal FC sealed a 2-1 goal victory against hosts Chittagong Abahani Ltd in one of the two opening day’s match while Karachi Electric FC conceded a 2-3 defeat against Dhaka Abahani Ltd in the tournament opener on Tuesday.
In the day’s match, East Bengal Club dominated the first half by 2-0.
Midfielder Orko Essien put East Bengal Club ahead in the 15th minute by a header from the top of the six yard box, off a Abinash Ruidas cross from the left flank (1-0).
Midfielder Mohammad Rafique doubled the margin in the 25th minute by a placing shot, off a back pass of Orko Essien (2-0).
With the day’s goal, Rafique scored his 2nd goal in the tournament after scoring his first goal hosts Chittagong Abahani on the opening day.
Forward Ranti Martins Soleye scored the 3rd goal for the Kolkata team in the 50th minute. Ranti tapped the ball from the six yard box, off an Orko Essien’s right footer
(3-0).
Forward Muhammad Rasool reduced the margin for Karachi Electric FC in the 84th minute, tapping the ball home from a Muhammad Riaz low cross (3-1).
Karachi Electric FC made a quick attack in the 17th minute, but medio Muhammad Riaz’s weak shot from danger zone, saved by opponent goalie Ghulam Nabi, off a forward Muhammad Rasool’s cut back.
East Bengal Club got a spot kick in the 21st minute, but Ranti Martins Soleye’s spot kick rebound from crosspiece.
Kolkata East Bengal FC will play the next match against Dhaka Abahani Ltd on Saturday (October 24) at 7:30 pm while Karachi Electric FC will face hosts Chittagong Abahani Ltd at 4:30 pm on the same day.
