Bangladeshi Grand Master Ziaur Rahman shared the 3rd slot with 14 other players in the 3rd Kolkata International Open Grandmasters Chess Tournament’ 2018 securing four points after the 5th round matches held in Kolkata, India on Friday.
Bangladeshi Fide Master Syed Mahfuzur Rahman earned 3.5 points, IM Abu Sufian Shakil, FM Sk. Nasir Ahmed, FM Mohammad Fahad Rahman and FM Khondakar Aminul Islasm earned three points each. International Master Mohammad Minhaz Uddin earned 2.5 points.
Other Bangladeshi players–FM Mehdi Hasan Parag, CM SM Sharon and CM Sohel Chowdhury earned 2 points each, CM Chanchal Kumer Ghosh, Anisuzzaman Jewel, Mukaddesur Rahman Khan and Tahsin Tajwar Zia –bagged 1.5 points each while WIM Rani Hamid earned one point after the 5th round encounters.
In the 5th round matches, GM Zia drew with GM Sandipan Chanda of India, FM Fahad lost to FM Erigaisi Arjun of India, FM Mahfuz beat Kaustav Kundu of India, IM Shakil beat Mahindrakar Indrajeet of India, FM Nasir drew with Alan Diviya Raj of India, FM Amin beat Balasubramaniam of India, IM Minhaz drew with Kulkarni Vinayak of India, FM Pagar drew with Jaeel Atharva of India, CM Sohel drew with WFM Bidhar Rutumbara of India, CM Chanchal lost to Nitin Shankar Madhu of India, CM Sharon beat Sa Kannan of India, Mukaddes drew with Siddharth Sabharishankar of India, Jewel drew with Om Kharola of India, Tahsin drew with Didwania Vishal of India and WIM Rani Hamid got bye.
