Koko’s 2nd janaza held; to be laid to rest at Banani Graveyard

The namaz-e-janaza of Arafat Rahman Koko was held at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque after Asr prayers on Tuesday. Khatib of the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque Prof Mohammad Salahuddin conducted the janaza at 5.13 pm amid tight security. Thousands of people from the all walks of life, including politicians, professionals, attended the janaza that sneaked out from Paltan Crossing to Janata Bank head office on one side and the Paltan Crossing to GPO intersection to Gulistan Cinema Hall on the other. The body is now lying in state on the mosque’s south plaza side enabling people to pay their last respects to Koko. Later, the body will be taken to Banani Graveyard (civilian) for burial. Arafat Rahman Koko, the younger son of former president Ziaur Rahman and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, died in Malaysia on Saturday at the age of 45. Earlier in the day, a flight carrying Koko’s body landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 11:45am. Later, the body was taken to Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office around 1.45 pm, from where it was taken to Baitul Mukarram around 4.45 pm.—UNB, Dhaka.
