A village woman Kohinoor Begum,who is always awake, intelligent and crazy about her work. She is a president of the Krishnamongal women group under Combating Gender Based Violence (CGBV) project of Mahideb Jubo Somaj Kallayan Somity (MJSKS), supported by MJF and funded by Sweden under Ulipur Upazila in Kurigram. Kohinoor has been cherished as an entrepreneur since childhood, but she didn’t know how to fulfill her that wish. Whenever she joined in the project-supported women group. She learned about gender, gender-based violence, human rights, dowry-free marriage, prevention and protection of girls from early marriage etc through project.
Kohinar Begum is daughter of late Khatibuddin and mother Saherbanu Begum of Hokdanga village in Ulipur upazila of Kurgram district. Kohinoor’s father was not well off. Three brothers, four sisters and a total family of 9 people including father and mother. Kohinur is the eldest of the siblings. Her father used to run the family by working in agriculture. Due to poverty, his father forcibly married Kohinoor before 24 years ago with Mizanur Rahman son of Gatu Miah,Village Krishnamongal, Gunaigach Union. Mizanur is a carpenter by profession and Kohinur’s grandfather could not accept on that marriage as poor family. Kohinoor’s family wanted to divorce her but Kohinoor did not agree to the divorce. Thus she got two sons in the course of her family life. The family seemed to become heavier. Meanwhile, Mahideb Jubo Somaj Kallayan Somity (MJSKS) started to work on the Gender based Violence(CGBV) Project at Krishnomongol in 2017. In the beginning Kohinur collaborated a lot and became and selected as a president of Krishnamongal women group.Through the project, She was hired as an trainer in the Department of Women’s Affairs and earned money from there and bought a sewing machine. Kohinur is struggling to meet the expenses of the family as well as the cost of child education. So she wants to do more income generating work.
Seeing interest of Kohinur was linked with women’s organizations through the Gender based violence project (CGBV). There, Kohinur conducted skill development training on jute and jute diversified products and completed the training efficiently. In the training she learned to make different type of product of jute.
