Karmojibi Nari (KN), a platform for working women, has urged for forging a unity mancha for the working women in the aim of stopping fundamentalism, militancy and communal activities.
The KN made the call at a conference held at Institution of Engineers’ Bangladesh (IEB) in the capital city on Friday. The platform arranged the function to mark its 24th founding anniversary and on the occasion of the historic ‘May Day’.
KN founding President Shirin Akhter MP inaugurated the day-long conference, while president of the organisation Dr. Pratima Pal Majumder presided over the function. Programme coordinator of GIZ Dr. Jochen Frank Weikert, executive director of the KN Rokeya Rafique, general secretary Sharmin Kabir, executive member Umme Hasan Jhalmal and law officer Tanzina Eva also addressed it, among others.
Shirin Akhter urged to ensure maternal leave of the working women and establish day-care centre for children in all the working places of the women for the sake of women’s safety and their dignity. She also urged to forge unity mancha against fundamentalism, militancy and communal activities. The KN leaders also placed some other demands,
including implementation of the National Women Policy-2011, equal rights of women in property and law in this regard and women’s participation in all the sectors of national economy.
