Bangladesh finished the year 2016 with a 3-0 loss in an away series against New Zealand conceding an eight-wicket defeat in the 3rd match at Saxton Oval, Nelson on Saturday.
Bangladesh started their only bilateral away series in 2016, conceding 77-run defeat at Hagley Oval, Christchurch on December 26, followed by 67-run loss in the 2nd game at Nelson on December 29.
Under Mashrafe Bin Mortaza’s captaincy for the 2nd stint since September 2014, the Tigers were whitewashed for the first time in any bilateral series.
This is the New Zealand’s 20th win against Bangladesh in 28 ODI occasions since 1990. With the series result, New Zealand secured the 5th bilateral ODI series victory against Bangladesh where the Kiwis swept out the Tigers in four times by 3-0 margin.
Bangladesh whitewashed New Zealand twice in one-day format, first in a four-match series in 2010 and in a three-match series 2113. Bangladesh outplayed New Zealand in eight occasions, but all on home ground.
In the day’s game, batting first after winning the toss, Bangladesh started with good note as their opening pair between Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes contributed 102 in 21.1 overs on the way to their team collection of 236 for 9 in 50 overs.
TaImrul Kayes was caught by Neil Broom off Mitchell Santner bowling to depart from opening pair scoring 44 off 62 balls, including five boundaries and one over boundary.

Later on, Nurul Hasan (44 off 39b; 3×4, 1×6) was the only other notable scorer for Bangladesh.
Sabbir Rahman (19), Shakib Al Hasan (18), Mashrafe Bin Mortaza (14) and Mosaddek Hossain (11) were the other double figure scorers for the side.
Mitchell Santner and Matt Henry took two wickets each for 38 and 53 runs respectively in 10 and 8 overs. Kane Williamson, James Neesham, Jeetan Patel and Tim Southee took one wicket each for 24, 28, 40 and 45 runs respectively.
Chasing a target of 237 runs, New Zealand reached their destination scoring 239 for 2 in 41.2 overs, spurred by Neil Broom run-a-ball 97 and skipper Kane Williamson’s unbeaten knock of 95 off 116 balls.
Broom featured 12 boundaries and one over boundary, while the day’s man-of-the-match Williamson fire nine boundaries and one over boundary.
Number-5 batsman James Neesham added another unbeaten figure of 28 runs.
Cutter master Mustafizur Rahman was the only successful player for Bangladesh grabbing two wickets for 32 runs in 9.2 overs.
In the first match, Mustafizur captured two wickets for 62 runs in 10 overs, but was dropped from the squad for the 2nd game.
