KIU VC’s car attacked in Jhenaidah

The vice-chancellor of Kushtia’s Islamic University was attacked in Jhenaidah while he was on his way to the campus.
The car carrying VC Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari was stopped on the highway to Kushtia by felling trees, before a group of men damaged it and physically assaulted him.
Askari started from Dhaka on Thursday evening for Kushtia.
His drive Farhad Hossain said that they were on their way to Kushtia after dropping Askari’s PS Rezaul Islam in Jhenaidah.
Around 3am, when they reached the Charhiar Beel area on the Jhenaidah-Kushtia Highway felled trees on the road caused them to slow down when a group of men attacked the car, he said.
“They broke one of the glasses and told the VC sir to get off, but I drove on for another 300 feet. Sir got off and tried to escape, but the men nabbed him, when sir told them to take whatever was on him.”
Around 30 minutes later, police arrived at the scene and took them to the campus, said Hossain.
OC Ratan Sheikh of Islamic University Police Station said the have launched an investigation.
“We are probing whether it was a robbery or something else,” he said adding the attackers could not make off with Askari’s belongings.
