Kishoreganj Razakar commander Moslem Prodhan on Thursday filed an appeal with the apex court, challenging the sentence of death handed down to him by International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 for committing crimes against humanity in 1971.
“We have filed the 1238-page appeal with the concerned department of the Supreme Court, seeking his acquittal from the charges on 56 grounds,” said advocate Abdus Sattar Palwan.
The first tribunal on April 19, 2017, sentenced Moslem and his partner in crimes Syed Mohammad Hossain were sentenced to death for their monstrous crimes.
“The sentence of death awarded as above be executed by hanging the convicts by the neck or by shooting till their death, as decided by the government,” the verdict said.
Of the two, only Prodhan faced the trial in person and was present at the courtroom as the verdict was pronounced while Hussain earlier went into hiding as the process was launched to expose him to justice and believed to be in Malaysia right now.
Advocate Palwan defended both the convicts before the tribunal as he was engaged by Prodhan to defend his case, while the tribunal too appointed him as state defence counsel to move the case for the fugitive Hossain.
