Severe and speedy erosion of Kirtankhola River washed and damaged different points of the road communication of Charbaria Union.
Due to that already road communication between Barisal city, Herbaria Union and Lamchari under Sadar upazila of Barisal district disrupted at different points.
The speedy erosion also threatening existence of Aroj Manjil Public Library founded by Rationalist, Philosopher Aroj Ali Matabbar, situated besides the Taltali-Lamchhari Road.
Locals said at least 1000 feet of Charbaria-Lamchari road eroded by the Kirtonkhola River within one month and suffering twenty thousand of people of the union.
‘Kirtankhola River flow now merged Taltali River, a branch of Kirtankhola River. If we fail to prevent river erosion to Charbaria-Lamchari Road, the joint flow may damage the whole Charbaria area” said Mahatab Hossain Suruj, chairman of Charbaria union.
At least 50 families have became rendered homeless in Herbaria, Lamchari areas due to the recent erosion while local sources said that at least 500 families have shifted their houses.
Hundreds of students now bound to cross the eroded area by trawler and due to shortage of trawler they could not reach their institution in due time.
‘While we missed trawler and we could not present at our classes in due time’ said Shahina a class-three student of Lamchari primary school.
Rapidly advancing Kirtankhola River eroded huge paddy land and the condition of road from Charbaria to Lamchhari also very severe.
Tidal-bore, river-surge often engulfing the village and surrounding areas damaging housings, crops, communications, fish farming, and the affected locals alleged.
Shamim Matabbar, grand son of philosopher Aroj Ali Matabbar and librarian of Aroj Manjil public library said-‘Kirtankhola River washed away at least two kilometer embankment and river water entered on the main Road and damaged different points of the road. If river eroded Charbaria Road then the library premises would also become under severe risk’.

Babul Anther, executive engineer in charge of Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) ,Barisal district, said we have submitted a project proposal to concerned authority.
But Planning Commission returned the project proposal with some directions and some three-core taka only sanctioned for emergency work, said Saidur Rahman Rintu, Barisal Sadar upazila chairman.
“If we fail to protect the main embankment of the area from erosion of Kirtankhola, then the whole area including Aroj Manjil Public Library may be washed away, he added.
Female madrasah student missing in Sylhet
UNB, Sylhet
A female madrasah student has reportedly remained missing from Bishwanath upazila since Sunday morning. The missing student was identified as Marjana Begum, a seventh grader at Satpur Kamil Madrasah and daughter of Late Karim Khan of Atapur village of the upazila.
Family members said Marjana had left the house to go to madrasah on Sunday morning. Since then she has not returned home. Lamakaji union parishad chairman Kabir Hossain confirmed Marjana’s disappearance.
