Twenty shops, ferry pontoon and gangway eroded within short times after Kirtankhola River erosion on eastern bank at Charkawa point opposite to Barisal River Port turned severe on Thursday morning.
Till this report erosion was going on with breaks and Dr. Gazi Md Saifuzzaman, DC, Barisal visiting the spot said damages yet to be estimated.
Mustafizur Rahman, one of the erosion affected local resident, said the sudden erosion of Kirtankhola River started to hit the Chawkawa Bazar, bus stand and ferry ghat at about 6:00 am Thursday.
After creating cracks and suppressing earths of huge area at least twenty shops and connecting roads eroded away within few hours, the affected and witnesses said.
