State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr Murad Hassan said the killers wanted to destroy all the achievements of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through the August 15 assassination. “The August 15 carnage was not merely the killings of the members of a family, but it was also the killing of the advancement and prosperity of a state,” he told a virtual meeting. The National Institute of Mass Communication arranged the meeting titled “Power from grief: Mass media and the progress of Bangladesh”, on Sunday marking the National Mourning Day, a ministry press release said. Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud and Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mokbul Hossain, among others, also spoke at the virtual meeting with Director General of the National Institute of Mass Communication Shahin Islam in the chair.
Murad said the great hero of history and the great teacher of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and his family members were brutally killed on August 15 in 1975.
“This carnage left a stigma on the forehead of the Bangalee nation. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of Bangabandhu and the mother of humanity, has made the nation free from this stigma by bringing the killers of Bangabandhu to justice,” he said. The state minister said the Zia family destroyed all the achievements of the country.
Convicted fugitive Tareque Rahman, BNP senior vice chairman, will be brought to justice by bringing him back to the country, he said.
