Eminent academic and intellectual Emeritus Professor Dr. Anisuzzaman said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was assassinated with a view to foiling his ideals.
“But it is now clear that the killers have not been able to obliterate his ideals from Bangladesh,” he said this on Friday while talking to BSS on the occasion of Bangabandhu’s 41st martyrdom anniversary and National Mourning Day.
Prof. Anisuzzaman said the Liberation War took place in 1971 in the name of Bangabandhu and he is the founder of Bangladesh.
After the killing of Bangabandhu, his ideals were hit hard, but those could not be destroyed, which is evident today, he added.
Now the people are showing profound respect towards Bangabandhu, the leading intellectual said and suggested reinstating his ideals at the state level.
He said the killers of Bangabandhu and later his critics in state power have been successful, to a large extent, to divide the nation.
He suggested reestablishing the national unity of 1971, as far as possible, in showing respect to Bangabandhu and reinstating his ideals.
Referring to the Liberation War, Prof. Anisuzzaman said people of all walks of life had dreamt of forming a new country under the leadership of Bangabandhu.
The people kept confidence in Bangabandhu and he, too, had upheld the dignity of their confidence, he said, adding that Bangabandhu’s sacrifice for the country is unparallel.
Prof. Anisuzzaman pointed out that it was Bangabandhu’s 7th March speech where there was the declaration of Bangladesh’s independence. Again, he made a formal declaration on March 26, in favour of which there are proofs and documents.
Yet, those who do not accept this, in reality, deny the truth of history, he opined.
He appreciated Bangabandhu’s different activities during his small tenure in power after the independence, including making the country’s constitution and formulating policies on education, industry, trade and foreign affairs.
He observed that real respect could be shown to Bangabandhu by establishing the dream of Liberation War in Bangladesh.
