A court in Chittagong convicted one cruel husband with capital punishment for killing his pregnant wife.
Chittagong Women & Child Repression Tribunal -1 Judge Md. Rezaul Karim in a verdict on Wednesday convicted cruel husband Fazal Karim(38) with capital punishment and cash penalty of Tk.one lakh in the same judgment .
The convict is now under jail custody. PP of the Tribunal Adv Chandan Kumar told that under section of 11(ka) of the tribunal the verdict was given after proving the matter undoubtedly by the state counsel. Court sources said the convict Fazal Karim , son of Mozahar Meah of Gandamara union of Banaskhali upazila of south Chittagong married victim Bilquis Akhtar of same village of the upazila in 2009. The incident of killing occurred on 21 June 2010 following the repeated demand of money from her father failing to pa y the dower, killer husband beat her in head who expired immediately. Mother of the victim Jannat Khatun lodged a murder case against killer husband Fazal Karim before the tribunal on August 2, 2010. After taking depositions of 12 witnesses, the court announced verdict of death sentence to Fazal Karim on Wednesday last, sources said.
