After a long waiting for more than 50 hours the killer elephant of a circus party was taken away from the bamboo garden of one Abul Hossain of village Basabari within Atjuri Union under Mollahat Upazila in the district on Monday by its owner with the help of its Mahut (driver), police and the local people. As a result, the people of the localities breathed a shy of relief.
It may be mentioned here that the elephant belongs to a circus party displaying various physical performances and skillful arts at Ghonapara under the adjacent Gopalganj Sadar Upazila. In the early hour on Saturday the elephant tore the chain with which it was kept with a tree, crossed the river Madhumati that separates Bagerhat district from Gopalganj and went to the village Garfa under Udypur union under Mollahat Upazila and Kahalpur and Basabari villages under the same Upazila killed 3 villagers including 2 women and damaged a number of houses. At last it took shelter in a bamboo garden of village Basabati.
