A final year female medical student Sadia Hasan Khan’s dream to become a doctor and serve the nation nipped in the bud as she was killed in a road accident in the capital’s Nayabazar area on Saturday.
Sadia Hasan Khan, 23, was a student of Dhaka National Medical College and daughter of Hasanuzzaman, a former Deputy General Manager of Pubali Bank. She hailed from Rajshahi.
Sadia’s mother was also critically injured and admitted to the Dhaka Medial College Hospital (DMCH).
Nur Alam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bangshal Police Station, said, “Sadia and her mother were critically injured when a bus hit an auto-rickshaw in which she along with her mother was travelling to her institute around 7:00am. Locals rushed to the spot and sent them to DMCH. Later on-duty doctor of the DMCH declared Sadia dead around 7:30am.”
The bus driver fled the scene after the accident and law enforcers are investigating the matter, the police official said.
The body was handed over to the family members of the victim, he said.
Meanwhile, the students and the teachers of the medical college staged demonstration by blocking the roads. They demanded arrest of the bus driver for justice.
After receiving the information, police rushed to the spot and restored peace by giving assurance of arrest of the bus driver.
