The elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-3) has arrested 18 active members of a mobile phone snatching gang from the city’s Shahbagh, Jatrabari and Keraniganj areas.
A large quantity of snatching and stolen mobile phones and cash were recovered during the operation.
RAB-3 Additional Superintendent of Police Veena Rani Das confirmed the matter to the media on Tuesday.
The ring is not only involved with snatching, they were also involved in illegal mobile buying and selling businesses in different areas of Dhaka city for a long time, Veena Rani Das said.
The detained persons are identified as Md. Akhter Hossain Khan (29), Md. Liton (35), Md. Farhad Hossain (28), Md. Didar (40), Md. Mizan (48), Md. Rashed Dhali (31), Md. Hadid Iqbal
(35), Md. Ratan Mollaorfe Sohail (30), Md. Abdussalam Orfekallu (26), Md. Mohammad Ali (26), Md. Deen Islam (42), Md. Khokon (42), Md. Mamun (44), Md. Joynal (26), Md. Sumon (55), Md. Harun (45), Md. Roni Sardar (29) and Md. Abul Basar (39).
A total of 7 tabs, 242 touch mobile phone sets, 390 button mobile phones, 1 iPad, 24 SIM cards and cash of Tk 33,952 were recovered. Legal action is being taken against the accused in this connection, added Das.
