Several miscreants kidnapped and tortured a young man on video and posted it on social media.
Victim Raihan, 22-year-old son of Abul Kashem Miya of Mahipur village under Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali, went missing after he left for his father-in-law’s house in Taltoli on Thursday afternoon. He was carrying Tk1 lakh and his mobile phone on a motorcycle, Raihan’s family said.
Raihan’s wife attempted to contact him by phone on Thursday evening. She heard strange sounds from the other side of the line until the call was abruptly disconnected and the phone switched off. The family tried to locate Raihan but could not find any clues to his whereabouts until Friday night, when a local resident named Shahjahan Sikder drew their attention to a video that was going viral on Facebook.
When Raihan’s father saw his son tied to a tree and tortured in the video, he immediately informed the police. He has filed a case with Mahipur police station against Imam Sikder, Mashiur, Imran, Biplab Shil, and 4-5 other unidentified others.
Mahipur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Moniruzzaman said: “We are trying to rescue Raihan and arrest his kidnappers as soon as possible.”
