The rescued boy is Parvez, 14, son of Rahim Akand of South Sola village under Palong Police Station in Shariatpur district.
Sergeant Saiful Islam, in-charge of Bhaberchar Police Camp, said Parvez managed
to flee from a microbus parked near a petrol pump in the area while the kidnappers were taking him to Chittagong in a bid to send him to Iraq.
But the hoodlums chased the boy. However, they fled the scene sensing the presence of police.
Abdul Karim, uncle of Parvez, took him home from police custody on Sunday morning.
Parvez was kidnapped from Jurain Bazar area of the capital on December 13 last year. He was kept confined to a house in Rajshahi, police said quoting the victim.
