Police rescued a school student on Monday afternoon in Sylhet, one day after he was kidnapped.
The victim was identified as Akhtaruzzaman Riad, 16, a class-10 student of Khalil Chowdhury Adarshya Bidyaniketan and son of late Ruhul Amin of Dashgram at Bianibazar municipality in the district, police said.
Relatives of the victims alleged that Riad went out of his home on Sunday afternoon to go to Bianibazar upazila headquarters but did not return home at night.
They said that an unknown mobile phone caller on Monday morning made a call demanding Tk 40,000 from Riad’s family as ransom, prompting the family members to inform the matter to police.
Bianibazar police officer-in-charge Abani Shangkar confirmed of the incident and said that the victim was rescued on Monday afternoon from a garden house at Mullapur union of the Bianibazar through tracking the mobile phone number of the phone caller.
‘Three youths, including Rezwan, an activist of ruling Awami-backed student organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League, were arrested for their suspected involvement with the kidnapping incident,’ he said.
