Khulna metropolitan and district Police have taken stringent security measures for peaceful celebration of Eid-ul-Azha.
The measures were taken at a meeting at the KMP headquarters on Tuesday with Additional Police Commissioner Md. Mahbub Hakim in the chair.
Senior police officers including chiefs of crime division, traffic division and detective branch attended the meeting.
The meeting decided not to allow setting up of any makeshift cattle markets except those approved by the Khulna City Corporation (KCC).
The police will ensure security to all the buyers and sellers at the Zoragate cattle market and will not allow any activities that can hamper traffic movement due to the market.
Police will set up a control room at the makeshift Zoragate cattle market and to form quick response team in the city and will make coordination with other law enforcement agencies.
Special attentions would be given to secure the areas in and around the cattle markets for hassle-free money transactions of buyers and sellers.
The additional KMP commissioner directed his officials to identify and take necessary actions against muggers, pickpockets and doping gangs.
As part of other security measures, KMP would set up close-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and counterfeit currency (Taka) detected machines at the cattle market.
Meanwhile, foolproof security measures have been ensured by the district police to keep law and order situation under control in and around at all 33 cattle markets in nine upazilas and two pourashavas in Khulna district ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
While talking to BSS today, Khulna Police Super Nizamul Haque Molla said, over 1500 dressed and plainclothes policemen will be deployed in and around of all the cattle markets in the district.
Police also will patrol on all roads and highways to check extortion, snatching, pick-pocketing, harassment of the cattle traders and buyers, he said.
Preparatory meeting on Eid-ul-Azha held
Aimed at making the celebration of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest festival of the Muslims,
smooth and hassle-free, a preparatory meeting was held at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner (DC) here today.
With Deputy Commissioner Amin ul Ahsan in the chair, the meeting was attended by officials, elites, freedom fighters, journalists and Imams. It was decided that like previous years the main Eid congregation will be held at 8am and the second Jamaat will be held at 9:30am at Khulna Circuit House Eidgah.
In case of inclement weather, the congregations will be held at 8am and 9:30am at Town Jame mosque.
It was decided that Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) would take tight security measures before and after the Eid.
The deputy commissioner also requested police to remain alert against extortionists saying that they could not collect toll halting trucks and buses on the streets in the name of Pourashava or workers union.
The DC also advised district administration, police, health, Road and Highway Department to form ‘Quic Response Team’ for tackle any untoward situation before and after the Eid.
The meeting was decided that Khulna City Corporation Authority (KCC) would take all necessary measures for properly and befittingly preparing the prayer places.
The KCC authorities has selected 172 slaughtering spots and taken steps to remove animals disposal from the city within 24 hours of slaughtering.
Power Development Board (PDB) was requested to ensure uninterrupted electricity in all the areas under its coverage.
It was further decided that a vigilance team consisting of law enforcing agencies people, bus owners association and district administration will be formed to ensure fair price of the tickets of the inter-district coaches.
