Holders Khulna Division scored 221 for 4 in 56 overs in the first innings replying to Barisal Division’s first innings total of 261 for all on the 2nd day of the four-day Tier-1 match of the Walton LED TV National Cricket League at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna on Monday.
Barisal Division resumed the first innings in the morning with their overnight score of 165 for 3 in 43 overs and were dismissed adding only 104 runs losing seven wickets on the 2nd day.
Two night-watch batsmen — opener Shahriar Nafees (76) and Al Amin (0) -retuned to the pavilion without scoring any run on the 2nd day.
Number eight batsman Monir Hossain tried his best to rebuild the Barisal innings contributing 57 runs off 61 balls with 10 boundaries, but failed due to the collapse of the middle and lower orders.
All-rounder Shohag Gazi made 33-ball 15 with two fours while number nine Kamrul Islam Rabbi added 13 runs off 84 balls with two fours apart from Fazle Mahmud’s 82 runs off 118 balls with 12 fours and one six on the first day.
National coloured pacer Al Amin Hossain and veteran spinner Abdur Razzak grabbed three wickets each conceding 38 and 84 runs respectively while Mehedi Hasan Miraj took two for 74 runs.
In reply, Khulna Division made a frustrating start losing two wickets of opener Anamul Haque Bijoy (2) and one down Nahidul Islam (0) for 18 runs in 7.4 overs.
However, Mahady Hasan pairing with Tushar Imran repaired the early damage scoring 124 runs in the 3rd wicket stand.
Opener Mahady Hasan contributed 123-ball 85 runs with 11 hits to the fence and one over the fence while former national cricketer Tushar Imran hammered 121-ball 91 runs with 12 boundaries. Middle order Mohammad Mithun remained not out on 28 runs off 61 deliveries with one four and a six.
Golam Kibria captured three wickets for 21 runs while Shohag Gazi took the remaining wicket giving away 53 runs.
Another Tier-1 match between Dhaka Metro and Dhaka Division could not be held on the 2nd day at Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra due to rain and wet outfield on Monday.
Dhaka Metro scored 47 for 2 in 15 overs against Dhaka Division in the first inning on the first day of the four-day affairs in rain-hit match on Sunday.
Mohammad Sharif captured both wickets conceding 18 runs.
