Rampant road digging by the authorities of Khulna Water and Sewerage authorities (KWASA) is at present a common phenomenon for the city inhabitants.
Even during the ongoing heavy rainfall, mindless road digging by the authorities of Khulna Water and Sewerage authorities (KWASA) is going on unabated without any hesitation, creating immense suffering to Khulna city dwellers and acute traffic congestion on the road. In the name of setting Pipe lines, KWASA authorities have been conducting working in a snail’s pace, it is alleged.
Sources said, KWASA authorities have already dug around 25 kilometers road at different parts of the city, creating traffic congestion and difficulties to the pedestrians. At least one person was killed and five others were injured falling into the ditches, which were dug by the people of KWASA authorities.
It is mentionable in this connection that on April 21, 2017 at night, a motorbike rider named Nazrul Islam alias Nozu was killed near at Sonadanga Gazi Medical College & Hospital while he was crossing the death-trap (!), i, e the ditch created by the persons engaged by the authorities of KWASA. Besides, at least five persons including elderly men and tender-aged school students were injured by falling into these ditches.
As KWASA authorities has dug road for setting pipes even at both sides of Khulna-Jessore Highway, vehicular movements are disrupted and created traffic congestion seriously. On a spot visit on Tuesday (August 1, 2017) at around 3.15pm, this correspondent found that due to massive road digging by the authorities of KWASA, most of the vehicles were plying by taking risk of accidents on Khulna-Jessore highway and Khulna-Satkhira road near at Daulatpur govt. Muhsin High School (Boys) and Daulatpur Muhsin Girls’ High School, located at Daulatpur Muhsin Intersection area under Daulatpur police station area in the city (Snap of which was taken instantly). This correspondent also found some large and dangerous ditches on Khulna- Satkhira road, created for road digging by KWASA. While talking to this correspondent, Liza Khan, a class four student said, I fell into the ditch while I was returning from School and I hurt on my legs.
Soma Islam, another class five student said, I always in fear of falling into the ditch during my going and coming from school, because I always go and come to school on foot.
Shuvro Devnath, another class five student said, On the way to our school we are afraid of falling into ditches and often some of my classmates also fell into ditches and were injured, we couldn’t understand such type of road digging, he added.
People of all walks of life has given several allegations to this correspondent that in the name of setting pipelines of water, Khulna WASA has been committing fun with the city dwellers, creating miserable sufferings.
Md. Sharafat Hossain, resident of Daulatpur Muhsin intersection area told this correspondent that he is in great difficulties for the road digging by WASA. Selim Sheikh, a battery run easy bike driver said, road digging by WASA has facing us in miseries know no bound. Billal Ahmed, a rickshaw-puller also echoed Selim Sheikh.
Sources further said, KWASA started their digging programs in the month of November in 2016 which is still going on. Meanwhile, several potholes and ditches were created due to Whimsical road digging by the KWASA. Mud and water has mounted extra sufferings to the city dwellers.
This correspondent also visited city’s Boyra, Baikali near AD-Din hospital, Daulatpur, Moylapota, Royal Intersection, Shibbari Intersection and PTI intersection where he found so many potholes and ditches which are risky for both the pedestrians and the vehicles.
Official sources of KWASA said, it would require three more months for completing the works of setting pipelines with a view to supply water for the city dwellers.
Being aggrieved by and dissatisfied with the mindless and continuous road digging by KWASA authorities, even the ruling party Awami League’ Khulna city unit General Secretary and also the present lawmaker of Khulna-2 constituency Alhaj Mizanur Rahman Mizan, MP recently exchanged views with journalists at Humayun Kabir Balu auditorium of Khulna Press Club while he expressed his deep concern for the whimsical road digging by the authorities of KWASA and he suggested to complete the works of setting pipelines as early as possible with a view to reduce the sufferings of Khulna city dwellers.
KWASA sources further said, Works of setting pipes are divided into two parts.In the first stage, pipes were set in 36 kilometers area and the other 650 kilometers moderating pipelines would be set through machines.
