Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin is going to leave the responsibility of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) with a debt of Taka 814 crore 20 lakh 80 Thousand . When he was sworn in the mayor’s chair five years ago, the city corporation’s debt was only Tk 265 crore. When he is about to step down from the post at the
end of his term, the amount of debt is 614 crore 20 lakh 80 thousand taka. Out of this huge debt, the contractors owe more than Tk 700 crore. On the other hand, the officers and employees of CCC will get around 100 crore taka. Reliable sources of CCC have confirmed this information.
AJM Nasir Uddin is scheduled to resign from the post of mayor on August 4. The term of the mayor of CCC is coming to end on August 5. Then the responsibility of City Corporation goes to the Administrator. The government has already appointed Chattogram City Awami League Vice-President Khorshed Alam Sujan as the Administrator of CCC.
An official of Chasik’s Accounting Department, who did not want to be named, said that when AJM Nasir Uddin was the mayor, he spoke loudly about the corporation’s debt of Rs 2.5 crore. Now he will leave the office keeping debt around Tk 1,000 crore. He is leaving unpaid various types of allowances including pension and gratuity of the officers and employees of Nagar Bhaban around Tk 100 crore. But no previous mayor has left money unpaid for officials and employees. The retired workers are also not happy with the mayor.
According to City Corporation Sources, out of the Tk 614 crore 20 lakh 50 thousand, matching fund of various projects is 386 crore taka, the bulk allocation and general allocation is 287 crore 95 lakh 41 thousand 950 taka, the ICC cricket project 11 crore and ADP (Chattogram Metropolitan Infrastructure Development Project) 15 crore including CDMP Bahaddarhat project, CDMP Maheshkhal project, garbage treatment plant project, commercial capital project and 31 crore 32 lakh 35 thousand 496 taka of these seven projects.
