Awami League- backed mayoral candidate Sayeed Khokon has got Hilsa fish symbol and BNP-backed candidate Mirza Abbas has got mug for Dhaka South City Corporation election. Returning Officer Mihir Sarwar Morshed allotted the symbols on Friday morning. After securing the demanding polls-symbol hilsa, Sayeed Khokon said the polls-sign was the legacy of his father – Mohammad Hanif who was a Dhaka’s mayor for a long time. “Hilsa was my father’s electoral symbol and I got it as electoral tradition. I am happy with that symbol,” he told reporters. Six mayoral candidates including Mirza Abbas claimed elephant for their electoral symbol. Abbas, in the end, got mug.
