Entertainment Desk :Artist and filmmaker Khalid Mahmood Mithu was a man of multiple talents who died on Monday when a Krishnachhura tree fell on him at Dhanmondi area in the capital. Witnesses said that the 56-year-old Mithu was coming through the Road No 4 at Dhanmondi early Monday afternoon boarding a rickshaw. Suddenly, a broken branch of Krishnachhura tree fell on him and he died on the spot. He was born in Dhaka on January 1, 1960. He earned his MFA from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka in 1986. Simultaneously, Mithu is an internationally known filmmaker whose Glow of the Firefly had been shortlisted for the 2015 Oscars in the Foreign Film category. His wife is the country’s noted artist Kanak Champa Chakma. Mithu’s first film was Gohiney Shobdo. The film was released on March 26, 2010. He received the National Award in Best Director’s category for the movie. Mithu’s another film was Jonakir Alo.Mithu has done 10 solo painting and photography exhibitions in Bangladesh, the United States, and Japan. He has taken part in 134 major group exhibitions in the United States, England, Canada, Australia, Netherlands, France, Nepal, China, India, Japan, Korea, Slovenia, Germany and Bangladesh. He also has made 150 musical programmes, 30 fiction movies (50-90 minutes) and many documentary films. Mithu achieved a very good reputation as oscar-nominated film director and has won 29 prestigious awards in categories for The Best in Film Directing, Scriptwriting, Painting, Photography, and Cinematography.
