Khaleque’s tragic return from Italy

A returnee from Italy with coronavirus symptoms died at a Private Hospital in Bhairab town of Kishoreganj district on Sunday midnight.
The man was identified as Abdul Khaleque, 62, in Jagannathpur area of Bhairab town. He was admitted to local Abedin Hospital with respiratory problems around 11.30pm where the doctors on duty referred him to an isolation centre.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Mujibur Rahman told The New Nation that Abdul Khaleque returned from Italy on February 28. He had been staying at home since his return, but he was suffering from flu-like symptoms since Saturday.
Khaleque was first taken to a local hospital on Sunday as he had fever and breathing problems. He was given initial treatment there and then referred to Abedin Hospital, said the Civil Surgeon.
But he died on way to the Private Hospital, he added.
Family members of Khaleque have been put in home quarantine Monday along with some neighbours, the Civil Surgeon added.
On information, a team of IEDCR visited the spot and collected samples. Confirming the death, Kishoreganj Police Super Mashrukur Rahman Khaled BPM (Bar) said we are trying to trace the people he had been in contract with and will take necessary measures.
UNO of Bhairab Lubna Farzana talking to The New Nation that the man lived in Italy with his two sons. He came to visit his family members who live in Jagannathpur area of Bhairab town.
The body, which is still at his house, will be buried under the supervision of administration.
According to Civil Surgeon Office, at least 371 people from different areas of Kishoreganj have been placed in home quarantine so far on suspicion of having Cononavirus.
They returned from different countries, including Italy, Kuwait, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and Singapore.
Deputy Commissioner Sarowar Morshed Chowhdury confirmed this information.
Stern actions would be taken against the returnees from abroad if they move freely without staying in home quarantine for 14 days, he warned.
