UNB, Dhaka :
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said Khaleda Zia’s property will be confiscated if the court orders and that could be distributed among those affected during the recent countrywide hartals and ongoing transport blockade enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
“I want to assure all that the law will take its own course, and we’ll act as per the law. If the court passes any such order to confiscate all the property and assets of the BNP chief and distribute those among the victims and affected people of the countrywide hartals and blockade, then we’ll definitely act on that,” she said.
The Prime Minister said this replying to a supplementary question raised by Md Monirul Islam (Jessore-2) during her scheduled question-answer session in parliament in the evening.
She said, the government would not be able to do anything beyond the law hoping that the people of the country would be protected through the enforcement of law enabling them to live in peace.
Hasina alleged that Khaleda has been unleashing terrorist and militant acts across the country the way terrorist and militant outfits conduct such acts across the world although there is no such public association in this movement. “But, people have completely
rejected her hartals and blockade.” She said, when her government abides by the law of the land, but the BNP chief does not care about anything as she does not abide by the law and order of the court.
Meanwhile, replying to a starred question from ruling party MP Kazi Nabil Ahmed (Jessore-3), the Prime Minister said so far some 130 people were killed while over thousands injured during the countrywide subversive acts by the BNP-Jamaat over the last 85 days since January 5.
About the logical consequences of the BNP-Jamaat’s movement as declared by the BNP chief through a press conference, Hasina said her such programme would push BNP towards extinction and that would be the logical consequences of her so-called movement.
Referring to the BNP chief’s March 13 press conference, Hasina said people have rejected the speech of the militant leader Khaleda Zia with hatred.
She also said if Khaleda Zia dos not surrender before the court, then police would take due legal steps once the arrest warrant reaches the police station.
Replying to another supplementary question from BNF MP Md Abul Kalam Azad, Hasina said it is the duty of her government to ensure the security for every countryman, not only for the MPs.
She, however, said the BNP chief is now safe in her office.
The Prime Minister said the BNP chairperson kills people and burns them to death, while her government tries to save the common people. “Khaleda has no affection and responsibility towards the common men of the country.”
