BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was given physiotherapy treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Tuesday afternoon.
“Physiotherapy for Khaleda Zia started on Tuesday afternoon as the therapy is important for her rheumatoid arthritis,” said BSMMU Director (hospital), Brigadier General Abdullah Al Harun at a press briefing in his office.
Abdullah Al Harun said that the Medical Board, formed for Khaleda Zia’s medical treatment, would meet her on Wednesday afternoon to start her full-fledged treatment process. The BSMMU director said the situation of Khaleda Zia’s hand can be improved to some extent after treatment. He, however, said the health condition of Khaleda Zia did not deteriorate further but remained static. Medical Board Chief Professor MA Jalil Chowdhury and Dr. Syed Atiqul Haque visited Khaleda Zia’s cabin on the day and collected information about her health conditions. On Monday, the medical board to treat Khaleda Zia said that prolonged rheumatoid arthritis developed deformity in Khaleda’s left hand and frozen her left shoulder.
The BNP chief has arthritis in her left hip joint and in the knees. Besides, she is suffering from uncontrolled diabetes, hypertension, painful urination and respiratory problem, the medical board said. The medical board on Monday said Khaleda Zia’s main health problem is rheumatoid arthritis and before starting the main treatment of rheumatoid arthritis her other health conditions should find out.
Medicines of rheumatoid arthritis cannot be given if the conditions of her heart, liver, kidney and diabetes do not permit or if her infection is not cured, the doctors said. The former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia was admitted to the hospital on Saturday from the Old Dhaka Central Jail where she lived since February 8 after being convicted in a graft case.
