Following the issuance of search warrant by the court, the police can now carry out the search operation at the Gulshan office of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia at any time.
Several ruling party leaders on Monday demanded that the office should be searched immediately.
Four days after an arrest warrant against Khaleda Zia, the court on Sunday issued a warrant in another case for the police to search her office.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Huq told media that the office would be searched when required. Awami League leader Hasan Mahmud MP on Monday demanded an immediate search at the office in line with the court order. Addressing a human chain in the city, the former minister requested the law enforcers to take immediate steps to implement the court order.
On the other hand, BNP leaders said that the government has given the police a warrant through the court in order to put Khaleda Zia under further pressure. The government wants to remove the BNP chairperson’s staff and party leaders from the office, so that Khaleda Zia remains absolutely alone and cut off from the outside.
Khaleda Zia’s lawyer Advocate Sanaullah Miah said that the warrant has been issued to remove the BNP chief from her office. This is part of the government’s conspiracy to obstruct the ongoing movement. Such conspiracy won’t stop the movement, he said. Khaleda Zia has been staying in the Gulshan office for the past two months.
