Khaleda`s motorcade attacked yet again

UNB, Dhaka: BNP chairperson’s motorcade came under attack yet again on Wednesday allegedly by ruling party men in the city’s Banglamotor area, leaving at least10 people, including her adviser Abdul Quayum and two personal security staff, injured.

With the fresh one, Khaleda’s motorcade was attacked thrice for the third consecutive day.

Witnesses and BNP leaders said a group of people, led by some Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders, including Moshiur Rahman Rubel and Mamum Ahmed, attacked the BNP chief’s motorcade with rods and sticks and brickbats around 5:20pm as it got stuck in traffic jam at Banglamotor crossing.

The attackers also beat up Khaleda’s security men and damaged their vehicles.

At one stage, the BNP chief’s vehicle hurriedly left the scene towards Nayapaltan. Khaleda escaped unhurt, but her vehicle’s rear glass got badly damaged.

The BNP chief reached Nayapaltan around 5:55m and took position at the party’s central office.

Of the injured, Khaleda’s security staff Lieutenant (retd) Samiul Islam, ATiqul Islam and driver Mannan were admitted to a city hospital, Khaleda’s media wing member Shamsuddin Didar told UNB.

Following the attack, senior BNP leaders and pro-BNP professionals’ electoral platform Adarsha Dhaka Andolon leaders rushed to the BNP office and sat in an emergency meeting to work out the next course of action.

Kkaleda was staying at her chamber on 1st floor of the office.

Earlier, Khaleda came out of her residence around 4:45pm to carry out campaign for her party-blessed mayoral candidates for the two Dhaka city corporations’ elections for the fifth consecutive day.

On Tuesday, miscreants during her electioneering for her party-supported Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) mayoral candidate Mirza Abbas in the city’s Fakirapool area on attacked her motorcade by hurling brickbats and stones towards it.

As the BNP leaders and activists and police chased the attackers they fled the scene. However, Khaleda escaped unhurt.

Earlier on Monday, a group of miscreants attacked Khaleda Zia’s motorcade during her electioneering in the city’s Karwanbazar area in favour of her party-backed Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayoral candidate Tabith Awal.

BNP alleged that the ruling party activists attacked her motorcade at Karwanbazar and sprayed bullets at her personal vehicle, slightly damaging its windowpane.
