Attorney General Mahbubey Alam has said Khaleda Zia’s lawyers are pressuring the court into coming to a decision in their favour regarding her bail.
He was talking to reporters after chaos during a hearing for the bail petition of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Zia Charitable Trust case led to all six Appellate Division judges leaving the courtroom embarrassed.
The Supreme Court then fixed December 12 for hearing the bail petition of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Zia Charitable Trust case.
Around 12pm, the Appellate Division again tried to start the hearing, but failed due to chaos created by the BNP lawyers. Around 1:15pm the judges left the courtroom, seeing no signs of improvement in the situation. Attorney General Mahbubey Alam told reporters: “BNP lawyers are trying to pressure the court so that doctors run more tests sooner to examine Khaleda’s health condition.
Supreme Court Bar Association President AM Amin Uddin expressed frustration over the situation and told the reporters, BNP have no faith in Justice Division.
The bar president demanded legal action against such activities.
Senior counsels Jainul Abedin, AJ Mohammad Ali, Khandaker Mahmud Hossain and Barrister Moudud Ahmed, who stood for Khaleda, tried to bring the situation under control and ordered the protesting lawyers to leave the premises.
They, however, stood their ground, refusing to leave without a verdict.
Md Khurshid Alam stood for the Anti-Corruption Commission and Attorney General Mahbubey Alam represented the state.
The BNP counsels were also seen getting in argument with the prosecution.
Earlier, security was beefed-up on Supreme Court premises, ahead of the hearing against the former premier.
On Wednesday, the medical board formed by the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) for Khaleda’s filed its report to the university authorities on her health condition.
