BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia yesterday (Thursday) expressed no-confidence in the incumbent judge of Zia Charitable Trust Graft cases after the court rejected a petition of the BNP Chief seeking review of his earlier decision.
On Thursday, the lawyers of Begum Khaleda Zia filed time petition as she could not appear in the court due to security reasons.
Later, the lawyers filed another petition seeking adjournment of recording the depositions in the Zia Charitable and Orphanage Trust graft cases filed against Khaleda Zia and others.
The judge of the Third Special Judge’s Court of Dhaka Abu Ahmed Jamadar rejected the petition and recorded deposition.
At this the defence lawyers declared no-confidence in the judge of Zia Charitable Trust Graft cases. The court also set January 29 for next hearing in the case for the two graft cases.
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on November 25 last year dismissed two-leave-to-appeal petitions filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia following the acceptance of charges and indictment in Zia Orphanage Trust Graft case.
Besides, on March 19, the court granted a charge sheet against eight persons, including Khaleda Zia and her son Tarique Rahman.
The ACC filed the two cases in 2008 and 2011 against Khaleda, Tarique and seven others on charges of embezzling the funds raised for two charities.
