Khaleda’s effigy burnt in city

A large number of pro-Awami League (AL) socio-cultural organizations’ leaders and activists burnt an effigy of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia in protest against celebrating her birthday ceremoniously on August 15, the National Mourning Day. Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote, Krishak League and Online activists burnt the effigy in front of the city’s National Press Club in the afternoon after a rally, witnesses said.
Speakers at the rally condemned the Khaleda Zia’sbirthday celebration on August 15 and branded it as a mockery with the nation.
They also urged Khaleda Zia to refrain from celebrating her birthday on that day in future.
Khaleda Zia’s activities are similar to the war criminals’ activity, they further said.  
Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote’s General Secretary (GS) Arun Sarkar Rana, Agrani Bank’s Director Balaram Poddar, Krishak League’s leader M A Karim, Kazi Masud Ahmed and Momen Mehedi, among others, were present in the rally.
