Khaleda’s Defence Counsel Akbar dies during cross-exam

Senior advocate TM Akbar, who was a council of Zia Charitable Trust graft case accused Monirul Islam Khan, APS to former Dhaka City Mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka died while cross-examining a witness in the Special Judge Court-5 of Dhaka yesterday noon. Judge Dr Md Akhteruzzaman was conducting the makeshift court at Bakshibazar Alia Madrasa ground of the old city.
TM Akbar fell unconscious while cross-examining an investigation officer of the Anti Corruption Commission . “He collapsed on the floor and was rushed to the BIRDEM Hospital, where the physicians declared him dead” said Nuruzzaman Topon, a lawyer representing BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia in the case.
TM Akbar, 86, was enlisted as a lawyer on November 26, 1967. He left behind his two sons, two daughters and numerous lawyers, admirers and well-wishers to mourn his death. He was a veteran criminal lawyer for the lower court.
