BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday claimed that their party Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s health condition is very critical. Her life is now under threat.
He said, there is little hope of the return of party Chairperson Khaleda Zia with good health from the hospital.
Khaleda Zia would receive treatment as per her wish should she be released on bail.
Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told it to the reporters after visiting he grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e -Bangla Nagar in the city, the 41th founding anniversary of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal.
He said, “The government has been working its best against bail to Khaleda Zia,” he alleged.
The BNP leader said that the government is depriving his party chairperson of her right to get bail, although the government repeatedly said, it is the court’s authority to grant bail to Khaleda Zia.
Fakhrul said, “Khaleda Zia’s condition is very critical. If she is granted bail, she will decide where she will be treated.”
“The life of Khaleda Zia is at risk today. There arises a possibility that she might not return alive to us. She went to jail with a very sound health condition. Today, she can’t leave her bed, take her food herself and walk,” he alleged.
Fakhrul also claimed that his party chief is not getting proper treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).
The BNP chairperson has been in jail since a special court convicted her in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on February 8 last year.
Amid BNP leaders’ demand for admitting Khaleda to a specialised hospital, she was shifted to the BSMMU from jail on April 1 as her health condition deteriorated and she was kept in the hospital since then.
The BNP leader urged the people to unite themselves in order to establish a democratic governing system in the country. “The current illegal government should quit immediately, for holding a fair and credible election under a neutral administration and the Election Commission become the only way to overcome the current crisis.”
The BNP leader added that the arrest of the ruling party leaders in the recent anti-corruption drive has proved that the current government is a corrupt one.
