Pro-Awami League mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Annisul Huq on Sunday said he does not feel any extra pressure as BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has joined the campaign trail for his rival Tabith Awal.
“I don’t feel any extra pressure for it…it matters little who is carrying out campaign as the important thing is that who is the candidate,” he said while conducting electioneering in Mirpur area. On Saturday, BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia joined the electioneering for her party-backed mayoral contestant Tabith Awal. Annisul Huq said, “Voters never make any mistake…now they want a good mayor. I think they’ll elect the one who has good image, credibility and have good relations with the government.” Flanked by local Awami League MP Aslamul Haque, wife Rubana Huq, son Navidul Huq, brother Saiful Huq and other party leaders and activists, Annisul Huq started his Sunday’s election campaign from Government Bangla College, Mirpur-1 around 11.15 am and begged votes at different places, including Kalayanpur Natun Bazar area. Annisul sought votes assuring people of resolving the common problems of the city as well as turning Dhaka into a green one.
During the campaign, his supporters chanted slogans and distributed leaflets seeking votes in favour of his election symbol ‘Table Clock’.
Later, Annisul held a street rally at the playground of Kallayanpur 8 Pora Slum area.
Addressing the rally, he said, “I’ll be there beside you as a father of the family if I’m elected.”
Annisul also said that he would never destroy his image which he earned throughout his 30 years of work.
