Zia Trust case: Khaleda’s bail hearing adjourned

The High Court (HC) on Tuesday adjourned till today (Wednesday) the bail hearing of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in Zia Charitable Trust case in which she was jailed for seven years.
The HC Bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice S M Kuddus Zaman passed the order after primary hearing on the bail petition filed by Khaleda Zia on July 28.
Advocate Khandker Mahbub Hossain, Advocate Zainul Abedin and Barrister A M Mahbub Uddin Khokan took part in the hearing on behalf of Khaleda Zia, while Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan appeared for Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
In the petition, Khaleda said she has been suffering from different diseases, including diabetes and dental problem.
She has already served two and a half years in jail in this case and therefore, she deserves bail in the case, Khaleda said in the petition.
A Dhaka court on October 29 last year convicted and sentenced Khaleda Zia to seven years’ imprisonment in the case.
The following day, the HC in another case enhanced her jail sentence to 10 years’ imprisonment from five years in Zia Orphanage Trust case.
Khaleda Zia needs bail in these two cases for her release from jail.
The BNP chief has been admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) since April 1 for treatment.
